  12. Proposal (maximum 2 pages, including figures and tables, excluding literature cited)
    1. Description. A description of the service/technology, its need, and an explanation of how this service/technology establishes a new utilization of the core – either by use of standard services by a new user or development of a new application by a repeat core user. Proposal should include a clear description of how new access to this technology or expertise advances the progress of the applicant's research program, increases opportunities for funding, and/or enhances scientific discovery.
    2. Management. The proposal should discuss enduring core use following the establishment of feasibility.
    3. Literature cited (not included in page limit)

  13. Budget
Include a budget for $500-$5,000 (maximum) using this template.

  14. Budget Justification – Provide an itemized budget including cost per service or hour based on published core fees. Because of widely variable costs for different types of core services, each application will be judged primarily on the applicant's justification of a reasonable amount of core use to establish the feasibility of the research. Applicants should first establish and justify the number of units of core service (e.g. hours on an instrument, volume of reagent, hours of expert assistance) required to establish the feasibility using that core. Those units of service should be multiplied by the accepted recharge rate to arrive at the budget request.

  15. PI Approval and Signature
The application must have a PI signature demonstrating potential long-term funding and commitment to use the core.

  16. Core Director Approval and Signature
The application must have the signature of the core director, verifying that they have reviewed the project, attest to the feasibility of the project's outline, and confirm first time use of the core by the applicant.

  17. NIH Biosketch of Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator(s) (4 page maximum) Use Form "PHS 398/2590" from the NIH Grant Applications with other support pages. Include active, pending, and planned proposals. Include percent effort, total direct costs (current year) and potential overlap with the current proposal.
