MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH PROJECT PLANNING AWARDS
Project Award Amount $30,000
Description of Grant Area
These grants will be used to support development of complex cross-disciplinary research projects, through funding of planning research applications, performing preliminary studies and preparing lengthy and detailed grant applications, such as a PO1 grant. Preference will be given to endeavors showing evidence of benefit to multiple investigators from diverse backgrounds and to those with matching funds from departmental and other sources.
Clinical and translational research projects are generally funded through large multidisciplinary grants. To be competitive for such proposals, researchers from various disciplines must meet and discuss research goals and plans, perform preliminary studies, and prepare lengthy and detailed grant applications. Similarly, multidisciplinary educational projects (e.g., training grants) require a variety of planning activities from investigators in multiple fields. The SOS Center, working with various CTSI Programs, including the Network of Novel Clinical and Translational Methodologies, Clinical and Translational Sciences Training, and the Biostatistics, Research Ethics and Design (BREAD) program, will provide funds for the planning of multidisciplinary/multicenter research and educational projects that center on clinical and translational research.
Each funded grant will have a maximum budget of $30,000 and may be used for partial investigator salary support. Projects are for one year and are not renewable. To determine what is allowable and what is unallowable please refer to the application form.
Each SOS Center funded grant will require an end of grant progress report and a second report 12 months following the end of funding identifying resulting publications and subsequent funding recruited to support the expanded/extended projects. Any resulting publication must directly cite CTSI-SOS Center funding.
The proposed research must be clearly justified as being on the path to potential use in humans.
Note: As a general rule, within any category, priority is given to applicants who have never received funding in that category, except for the Fogarty International Training Awards in HIV/AIDS and International Mentored Scientist Award Program in HIV/AIDS.
Eligibility
All UCSF and CTSI associated institutional faculty in any series including professional research series may apply. Preference will be given to faculty at the Assistant level.
Criteria for Review/ Evaluation of Applications
The proposals will be reviewed based on the quality of the proposal and its potential to lead to fully funded multi-disciplinary research programs.
Note: Clinical and translational research includes bench to bedside/laboratory to human (T1) translational research, clinical research, and bedside to the community/evidence to practice (T2) research.
