Pilot in Integrative Medicine

Project Award Amount up to $50,000

Description
These pilot projects are intended to support a range of research related to integrative medicine. As defined by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health, integrative medicine "combines mainstream medical therapies and complementary and alternative therapies for which there is some high-quality scientific evidence of safety and effectiveness."

Each pilot project will have a maximum budget of $50,000, though smaller budgets are encouraged. Partial investigator salary support may be requested.

Pilot projects are for one year and not renewable. A progress report is required at the end of the funding period and one year later, identifying resulting publications and subsequent funding obtained to support the expanded/extended projects. Any resulting publication must directly acknowledge the funding agency.

Eligibility

UCSF faculty in any series, including adjunct and professional research series may apply, but must be affiliated with the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, or sponsored by an Osher Center faculty member who is included as part of the research team. Post-doctoral fellows are encouraged to apply.

Who's Eligible:
Fellows, Post Doc, Instructors, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Professors.

Who's Not Eligible:
Residents, Specialists.

Criteria for Review/Evaluation of Applications
Projects will be evaluated based on the quality of the proposed scientific investigation, the significance of the proposed research for the field of integrative medicine and overall public health, the potential of the proposal to lead future NIH grant applications, and the quality and potential of the applicant and the research team.

Pilot projects that involve human subjects will require human research committee approval before funding is released
