SHARED INSTRUMENT AWARDS
Project Award Amount $30,000
Description of Grant Area
These proposals are generally for larger pieces of equipment which can be shared by multiple investigators. It is expected that such equipment will reside in a campus shared resource (core) and be available to the campus community.
Each funded grant will have a maximum budget of $30,000. The choice of funding agency will be made based on the novelty of the technology and qualifications of the investigators and research applications proposed.
It is expected that cost for large pieces of equipment should be shared among several sources, including departmental funds, individual research grants, and Academic Senate.
For this Category, one application is sufficient to apply to both funding agencies, by providing two budgets. The Review Committee and funding agencies will choose the best applications for each Category.
Each funded proposal will require a final progress report and a second report 12 months following the end of funding. For this category, a report on the shared use of the equipment purchased will be required.
Note: For Shared Instruments, priority is given to applicants who have not received recent funding in this category.
Eligibility
For CTSI funding, UCSF and CTSI associated institutional faculty in all series. For REAC funding, School of Medicine Faculty in all series, including appointees in the Professional Research series. All applicants must be salaried at 50 percent or more time. For this Category only, Specialists who hold leadership positions in a Research Core may apply as PI.
Criteria for Review/Evaluation of Applications
Criteria for review include: 1) the quantity and quality of anticipated users for the shared equipment, 2) justification for the equipment as a novel technology which is not otherwise available on campus, 3) sharing of the cost for the equipment among investigators and department, 4) management plan for the equipment within a campus core resource.
